Sommercamp is a small pet lodging facility in rural Brighton, WI. The Sommer family has boarded pets since 1983, first as a hobby and then a vocation. Sue Sommer is active in many areas of dogs; competing in obedience, agility, conformation, rally and field with her beloved Sommit Labradors. Sue is a member of many organizations, including the American Boarding Kennel Association.
The Sommer family also operate a pet grooming shop in Paddock Lake, WI. The grooming shop and lodging facility operate in tandem, with the shop often acting as a convenient drop-off and pick up point for pets.
Sue and her children are very active in the day to day activities of both facilities, but the kennel is managed by Cheryl Krueger. Cheryl has been part of Sommercamp for 8 years, and knows all of the dogs (and some of the people!) by name. Cheryl is a successful obedience competitor, and has an avid interest in Golden Retrievers.
Cheryl also drives the van every Monday and Thursday, to pick up and deliver pets in Wilmette, IL. If your pet rides this shuttle, he knows Cheryl. Folks in Wilmette talk about dogs racing out to the van, ready to start their road trip.
How do you know if Sommercamp is for your pet? Is your dog social? That always helps! We do have some introverted visitors; however we must be able to handle them. In other words, no biters! Is your pet healthy? We have plenty of elderly guests, in fact Cheryl usually has one riding shotgun in the van. However, dogs with suppressed immune systems or who don't want to interact will do better with " at home care".
